WB State Election Commission imposes moratorium on Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Yojana at Netaji Indoor Stadium

The State Election Commission has ordered the cancellation of the Prime Minister's job fair program scheduled to take place in Kolkata, citing the implementation of the model code of conduct for the upcoming Panchayat elections.

The employment fair, originally planned for June 13 at Netaji Indoor Stadium, faced cancellation after the announcement of the elections. The Election Commission has sent a directive to the Union Home Ministry and the PMO, raising uncertainties about the program's fate.

The cancellation poses challenges as the event was prearranged, with appointment letters for government jobs set to be distributed. The legal implications of the Election Commission's directive on the Prime Minister's program are also under scrutiny.

The Panchayat elections are slated for July 8, and the Model Code of Conduct restricts the implementation of public welfare schemes and campaigning to promote government initiatives before the elections, amid allegations of political advantage-seeking leading to program bans.
